Copic Intermediate

I was lucky enough to be able to attend and achieve my Copic Intermediate certification recently - so I've been spending a lot of my time practicing and perfecting my colouring skills, as well as developing a set of Copic classes to help people step up their own colouring skills. I thought I would drop by and share a little preview of the kinds of things we will be looking more closely at in the classes - skin, hair and light/shadow. In order to give attention to detail I am planning on splitting the intermediate level into three separate classes to allow plenty of time for demonstration and practice. Looking forward to starting these new classes this month at the shop and hope to see you there.

My Butterfly

Just love working with Websters Pages ranges of papers and accessories and recently took some time out to create a layout using these products. I even added a digi brush which I almost never do, but I love how the blackbird image sitting on the worn fence draws your eye. I decided against a title or words, not because I'm lazy - though I could be accused of being so at times, but because I felt I wanted showcase the beauty of the papers and images (and my daughters photograph!) just as they were. I guess I just broke a few rules.

Upcoming Mixed Media Class - sneak preview

I've been working on a new mixed media class to start next month and I'm really excited about this one. It's such a fun happy class and I can't wait to teach it at Pages 2 Scrap. The sample will be on display in store as of tomorrow, so if you're a bit of a mixed media fan and are passing by the store, please drop in and take a look for yourself. I will have dates and times later this week along with any further details you might like.

This is a small step up from the previous mixed media class, but very do-able. Don't be afraid to try something new :) There is lots of fun to be had in this class. Hope to see you there.

Tiny Book

I got some creative time in over the weekend and managed to make this tiny little book which I wanted to share on my blog. It started out as a couple of chipboard blanks and paper, adding gesso, paint, crackle medium and inks. Once it was dry I rough bound the book with some twine, adding some tape and a stamped title along with some adorable miniature vintage findings that were gifted to me recently. The final touches were a pen nib from Tim Holtz which I aged with indian ink and some fabulous chunky vintage style glitter from Melissa Francis. It's so cute!

Art Journalling

A short while ago we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to have Donna Downey visit us at Pages 2 Scrap to share some of her magic. I've toyed with the idea of creating an art journal for a long time, but never knew where to begin or exactly what it was I wanted to create. There was always something missing and I could never quite capture what I was trying to achieve. Donna really did point me in the right direction and I am so happy to now be journalling regularly and letting my thoughts and ideas create themselves on the pages of my little art book. This is something that I hope becomes a regular part of days/weeks/months and years. So I thought I would share a little of what I have been doing in my art journal and perhaps inspire others to try it for themselves. No rules, no restrictions - just create from the heart. So thank you Donna, from the bottom of our hearts.

A Love To Last

I have to say, I am totally LOVING these 6"x12" canvas journal pages. They are super to work on and give a whole new texture to a layout. So happy!

I created this page as part of this weeks challenge at The Color Room. It wasn't my favourite palette to work with, but I figure if you never step outside, you never learn - right? But I am happy with the page - completely stoked actually.

Little House - Mixed Media project

I've had this great hand carved wooden frame at home for a few years now. Through various stages of it's life it's held photographs and even some hand made roses. Last night I decided to give it yet another new lease on life and wanted to create something happy and cheerful to live in the frame. A quick sketch later and I was busy creating a sweet little whimsical country scene. I've used gesso, paint, Glimmer, Glam and Glaze, mini Prima patterned papers, indian ink pen and modpodge. I love this creative process.

MesmerEyes - Canvas Layout and Once Upon a Sketch Challenge

I am so enraptured with the Tattered Angels Spring Collections colours. These colours are WOW - they are bright and cheerful and oh-so-sunny. They are simply A M A Z I N G ! Can you see how bright they are against the brickwall and paver backdrop!

I teamed these with some recent Prima releases to create this vividly hot canvas showcasing my daughters natural beauty and mesmerizing gaze. I started by applying a thick gesso to the canvas through the Brick template from Crafters Workshop. Once the gesso had dried, adding the colour was fast and easy. I used Sun Sisters, Party Pink, Marmalade, Bahama Blue and Dragonfly Glimmer Mist for the background colour and to colour the Prima mulberry flowers, and Emerald Cove Glimmer Glaze on my lettering. Metals are from Prima, Tim Holtz and Bo Bunny, with a few miscellaneous peices from my stash.

I based my canvas layout on the current sketch over at Once Upon A Sketch, which I turned upside down. Why not give it a go yourself.

New Kaiser Layout

I've been feeling a bit under the weather recently with a nice dose of adult tonsillitus - who knew I'd be getting this again after so many (ahem) years. I had quite forgotten how ill you can feel with it, especially since swallowing anything becomes something you want to avoid at all costs. Thankfully, I am feeling a bit better today and hopefully am now on the mend. So this afternoon I even felt up to doing something creative since I had the whole house to myself. I finished up some ATC swaps for the girls at Pages 2 Scrap and put the finishing touches on a layout I started a week or two back. I used the newly released Chanteuse Collection from Kaiser. Eerily, it reminds me of a gorgeous canvas Sherry Mendoza created a while back, using an old chipboard frame cutout. Something about the frame. Spooky.

The Girls

I was playing around last night with a layout for the shop of the girls down at Pages 2 Scrap. The updated photos of the girls were my inspiration to create a page dedicated to the family - everyone looks fabulous against the colourful cardstock backgrounds. For this layout I wanted to create a "family tree" impression. The Websters calendar paper was the perfect choice for a background. Fun page, can't wait to hang it on display in the shop.

Mermaid

I was so inspired to create a mermaid design from the new Moulin Rouge "Celeste" paper from Prima when I saw it. I had a huge amount of fun creating the textures on this canvas, from the sand used to create the ocean floor, to Glimmer, Glam, Glaze - anything which reminded me of the ocean floor. The effect is quite amazing and very convincing - I almost feel like I am under water when I look at it. Here's a closer version of Celeste's watery crown.

Disaster Strikes

So, I've had an eventful night - most of which has been spent in the emergency room at my local hospital. One of the family pets, let's just call him Fatso, had a seizure of some kind and as I was helping him through it his jaws locked onto my thumb and I got quite a nice little chunk of flesh taken out of me. It was no big deal, just cleaned it up and went to bed as normal. I woke up a few hours later with an infection raging in my hand, which you can see from the photo is quite swollen. Anyway, I have to go back tonight for a third dose of antibiotics by drip, plus I have oral antibiotics to take on top of these. The moral to this story? Don't take small injuries like this one for granted.

I don't think I will be getting much crafting in over the next few days. This is what hurts the most.

What a week it's been

Wow. Really...Wow. I have felt like I have been on a creative whirlwind ride between beginning at Pages 2 Scrap this week{LOVE}, attending some fabulous workshops by Donna Downey, trying to squeeze some family time in, working on some new classes coming up and getting my head around all this new inspiration I have floating about me at the moment. Yes, I'm on that roller coaster ride. I've met a lot of fabulous people this week and hope to see more of them soon.

One of the things I have wanted to do for a long time now is to keep some kind of a creative journal. I guess this is the reason why, out of all Donna's classes this week, "Inspiration Journal: "Creating a Visual Diary"" was the one I have REALLY been looking forward to. I've never kept a diary before - apart from this blog - and I have never really known where to begin. I mean really, where DO you begin? Well, I'm going to begin by getting rid of all the junk from my computer desk which clutters my space and resolve to spend time every week just allowing my thoughts to unravel in my journal. Starting tonight. There's no time like the present right? I'm in the mood for it! I plan to add my favourite colours on the day and let my journal evolve. Thank you Donna, for so much inspiration.

Inkurable Stampers challenge - bookmark

Inkurable Stampers challenge theme for this month is to create a bookmark using at least one stamp. I had to have a go, didn't I. But I always have trouble sticking to a recipe - not just challenge recipes - I can't even stick to a cake recipe. What hope do I have? But here you have it, I have stuck to the challenge. I've used at least one stamp. Actually I've used two different stamps. Can you spot them? I'll give you a hint if you like....Darkroom Door and Kaisercraft. I've also used some paper Prima flowers, Tim Holtz Distress Crackle, some thick black twine and a doodling pen. There is still time to enter the challenge, so get on over.

Exciting News and My Third She

I'm really excited to be able to say I am officially starting work at Pages 2 Scrap this coming Monday. I will be working three days a week in the shop as well as the end of month crop night, as well as teaching a variety of classes. I have felt I needed a change for a while now and I feel extremely blessed to have been given the opportunity to make this change and work in the industry I love. As an added bonus I will also be working with some fabulous girls which just makes this change all the sweeter.

In amongst the busy week we've just had I managed to finish my She Art assignments for Week 1. Which I guess is a bit of an achievement, but ever so easy when it's something you love to do. I can't stress how much I have enjoyed this workshop. There is a certain creative freedom to working on a blank canvas and turning it into a piece of art to showcase on your wall. Christy will be running the workshop again around April for anyone who missed out this time. Highly recommended class for anyone creative.

She Had Colourful Dreams

The second She in the group - there are a total of three this week. I really loved how the skeleton leaf wings turned out on this canvas. I had only started out with single leaf wings and added the double leaf at the last moment - which it really needed. I am also really happy with how the Glimmer Glam turned out on this canvas - it gives an amazing translucent look to the layers and adds another aspect of depth to the background. I'm really happy with the way this canvas turned out.

The Color Room #47 - SunSh!ne

I've been having a huge amount of fun in photoshop - altering photographs to include in a layout or just for the hell of it. I am finding that I can coordinate my photos with their layouts so much better, giving a more uniform and pleasing result. One of these days I just know I'm going to have to sign up for a photoshop tutorial or two since I just bumble around not really having too much of a clue what I am doing.

To show you what I mean when I say coordinate, I'm sharing a recent layout I did for the current Color Room challenge. The colours in my daughters' hair reflect perfectly the colours in the layout, creating a more harmonious and uniform look to the overall page. I am also loving the oversaturated look in these photographs - yes, I did that on purpose! It seems to add a vibrance to her image, one which conveys my daughters' sunny disposition.

There is still plenty of time to enter this weeks' Color Palette and sketch. Hop on over and have a play.

Treasure Box

I had a chance to get together the other night with a few of the girls from the shop for a night of fast food, gossip, music and dance!, and some papercrafting goodness. We had such a great time - they are truly a great bunch of girls. By the end of the night I had actually produced something that resembled a finished project! And considering how much goofing off we did, that was some achievement.

This little paper mache box is so girlie and whimsical and will make a great place to store those little girlie momentos and treasures. And I just shopped my stash for the papers and embellishments. Bargain.

Copic 103 - Embellishments

Having learnt some basic blending and feathering techniques in our first two classes, we now move onto exploring new applications for our copic markers. In this class we will be decorating ordinary embellisments and turning them into something special to coordinate with our projects. We will also be looking at creating some textured effects using every day items that you can find in your home, and demonstrating how this can be applied to a card or scrapbooking layout. This is an exciting must-do class for cardmakers and scrapbookers alike.

Star Quality - The Colour Room #46

It's been quite a while since I've done a Colour Room challenge, but I had some time tonight to play around with some paint and colour. I created this piece on a flat canvas using the current palette as a guide. I followed the suggested sketch as well, which made me realise how much I have missed sketch challenges.

Wendy's Button Bracelets

I was recently asked to describe how these button bracelets were created. My mother in law made them quite some time back now and they were so beautiful that I wanted to blog them. So I thought I would share the "how to" on them - although I have not made these myself, I do understand the process.

Requirements:

- Large handful of assorted buttons (I would think you will need around 50 or more)

- Coordinating seed beeds

- 1 inch wide elastic in suitable colour

- Strong thread for beading - Nymo is good

- Beading needle (narrow eye)

Cut elastic to the measurement of your wrist and add approximately 1 inch for seam allowance. Stitch the ends together to form a loop which slips over your hand and onto your wrist. This is the base for your button cuff.

Start stitching random buttons onto your cuff in a random pattern.

Any buttons with holes which show on top have been embellished with seed beeds strung onto the needle and looped through the button holes. Wendy has chosen to add a few more seed beads to these to form a "loop" at the top for further embellishment. This was done last after all the buttons were stitched on.

Wendy also chose to use vintage style buttons for these cuffs, however any style button would work. I imagine half back pearls, brightly coloured buttons in various sizes or metallic buttons would all look fabulous on a finished cuff.

I hope this helps anyone who might have been left wondering...

Bee Mine

No way! I've actually made some cards this weekend. So I thought I'd share at least one of them. I made this with a couple of card challenges and valentines day in mind. I started out by creating a background for my Stampotique large bee stamp (I just LOVE this stamp), using my Copics in YR23 to create a background colour block. Then I used some bubble wrap dipped in Colourless Blender refill and applied it straight to the background which created a "honeycomb" background for my bee. Using a 0.2cm diametre multiliner I drew in some lines to define the honeycomb. The wings were made using some heavy clear acetate and stamped with black Stazon. I coloured the stamped bee image with YR21 and YR23, adding some highlights with a Spica marker in Pitch Black. You can't tell very well from the photos, but this added a super fine sparkly black/gold glitter to the bee image. I added some inks to the background for depth, coordinated some patterned paper from my stash, found a sentiment which works perfectly and lastly used a small Prima vine for that finishing touch.

You are so beautiful

Inspired by one of the more recent Prima releases, I couldn't resist scrapping this photograph of my eldest daughter who has not long turned 18 and is leaving home to attend University in another city shortly. It's a bittersweet time in our lives. On one hand we are so very proud of her and very excited that she is moving on to a new phase in her life but on the other hand it is so very sad to see her move out of home. I wanted to create something really feminine, and Prima was the perfect choice.

I created a textured background for my layout using Mod Podge and some tissue paper, applying teal and mustard coloured paint mixed with some gesso for some colour variation. I then sprayed a small amount of Dragonfly Glimmer Mist in the centre, stamping a brick patterned stamp over the top in Timber Brown Stazon ink. The fussy cut papers are from Prima's Annalee line, and I added some paper packaging which matched perfectly. The flower spray is Summer Carnation in pink, and I added some angel wings to the largest flower which were die cut and textured with gesso. I added a small butterfly to the top of the vine and a splash of Kaiser bling here and there for some oomph. Lastly, I added the title using Prima Alphabet Stickers in pink, which I outlined using E47 Copic Ciou marker.

Artist's Printing Tray

I started this project AGES ago and got distracted with other things. The poor thing has been sitting on my desk for so long, it was high time I got in and finished it. I love these trays from 7 Gypsies - they are so inspiring. Just perfect for a family display.

My favourite part of this project has to be the miniature canvas with the double storey house stamp. I remember creating this little canvas, which just evolved into a small piece of art. So whimsical, but a lovely representation of our family home. Hope this inspires you to create something to hang in your own home.

On a side note, my darling husband presented me with a Vagabond this morning for my birthday. How lucky can a girl be.

A Mini for Sheridan

Back in November, I spoke about travelling down south to attend the wedding of my husband's niece and her new husband. Many years ago Sheridan, the bride, was our flowergirl at our own wedding so this was a special occasion for us. I had the chance to create a mini album keepsake recently and wanted to post the finished project to share with you guys. I didn't really start out with much of a plan, I just pulled a Maya Road raw chipboard album out of my stash and began to add a splash of Distress crackle paint here and there, some gorgeous papers from Websters and various random embellishments from my stash, not forgetting the Prima flowers. Well, the album evolved into a keepsake and it's now on it's way to a new bride. I hope Sheridan finds a few bits and pieces from her own memorabilia to add for herself.

I decorated the inside gate cover similar to the front, twisting the flower stems from the front page around the gate posts for a 3D look, and using the next page in the book as the title. And I just noticed that the grungeboard key I used is hanging towards the back of the gate - oops! I used a mini chain to attach it to a chipboard flourish

The two mini calendar pages were added to show the day and the month, then I added a small silver ring around the date. You can click on the image to see a larger version.

What have I been up to lately?

Hi guys. Thought I would pop in for a quickie blog update. The past couple of months have literally FLOWN by for me - between work, Christmas, a nice dose of gastro (eww)and other distractions I've not been around too much! But here I am, getting my mojo back thanks to some inspiration from a few different places. I actually did a class last week, both hosted one and participated in another - big day out for me. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting in on Bec's Altered Tags class at the shop using those fabulous Tim Holtz products and look forward to more down the track.

Something else I've been looking at lately are some fantastic stamps from Stampotique and I bit the bullet and placed an order yesterday. I love internet shopping, but when I find something I simply cannot live without I don't enjoy the wait on shipping so much. I do however have a little parcel on its way and thus have something to look forward to in the next week or two. These stamps are a little different - some might think a little disturbing - but ever so adorable. And I can totally say this because I have two teenaged daughters and can relate to this style. Copic 101 - Feathering

Today we ran the second instalment to our Copic 101 classes where we focused on learning the feathering technique and how to apply this to our projects. We also looked at colouring some stamped images with a mottling technique. This looks fabulous when applied to those adorable woodland animal stamps from Penny Black.

In this class we will be learning about Copic markers and how to use them with stunning results. We will be sharing tips and tricks to give you that polished look to your copic projects, choosing the right colours, how to fix any mistakes as well as learning how to blend seamlessly. There will be plenty of time to play and perfect your technique with a Copic certified designer on hand to guide and assist where needed. Christmas Card

Yes, I've started on my Christmas Card stash - can you believe it? I decided that this year I wanted to be organised and not leave everything until the last minute. But having said that, I haven't even thought about my Christmas shopping yet - so I am probably going to be rushing around like a mad thing anyway.

I've made a few different cards, but I wanted to post this one. I came across a card on a blog (sorry! don't remember which one now!) and loved the idea of making a card from some cardboard box. So I dug through my stash and here's what I came up with.

The back is just covered with some grunged up cardstock with sentiment and a personal message. I think this would probably look awesome hanging on the tree as well, perhaps a loop of twine or ribbon attached to one of the top corners would do the trick! A card AND a decoration in one hit!

I created this LO as my green page for the Colour? Or is it Color? class I've been taking. Nic has some great ideas - I lifted one of them for this page. The super thin cut strips of DSP curling out of the flower clusters look like delicate tendrils poking up from the page and add that little extra detail. I've used medical gauze to soften the layered look, dyed with Antique Linen Distress Ink. Most other products used are from Prima.

Green - Colour Theory

Week 3 already and we're doing GREEN this week. I love green and it's always been one of my favourite colours since I was a kid. But when it came to putting together this sample page for my colour album I realised that I am drawn more towards yellow/green or blue/green, but not "true green". So I've learnt something about myself already.

Here is my LO using orange and yellow for Colour! Or is it colour? . I chose to use a photograph of my youngest daughter on the day she finished pre-school to head off into the big world. It was a bittersweet day. My baby was growing up. I used a touch of blue to add contrast to the bold orange and yellow splashes of colour. I think it added some balance to a layout that would otherwise scream at you.

Challenge #4 - Feathering

I am head over heels in LOVE with Copics at the moment. My certification class on Monday renewed my love for colouring, and I am so excited to have picked up those extra little tips to help me along the way. I love how this album is coming together - the colours already sing to me. I've always loved COLOUR. Alas, I feel I might be falling a little behind after the week I've had but I'm paddling to try to keep up. I often feel that there is "so much to do! so little time!".

Copic Certification, Award Night and MORE.

I feel like my feet haven't hit the ground after the long weekend I've just had. My husband and I travelled down to Coolamon for a family wedding - I cannot begin to tell you how beautiful the wedding was. From the ceremony in the old church to the fabulous white marquis setting in the backyard - it really was like something out of a fairytale. I've never been to a wedding more beautiful. I have fabulous photos to scrap, which I am really looking forward to doing sometime very soon.

So after spending a great weekend catching up with family and friends, we headed back up to Sydney and stayed overnight since a few of us girls were registered to do the copic certification course the next day. YEAH! What a day. The class was FANTASTIC - we learnt so much and had a great time playing around with all the copic products and learning some tricks and techniques.

I've been using copics here and there in my scrapbooking - I particularly love being able to custom colour my embellishments and titles - things like Thickers, paper/silk flowers, metal etc, but there is no end to what you can do with these markers - it's a whole new world in scrapping. So Bec and I will be beginning to teach classes on copic techniques very soon. Watch the Pages 2 Scrap site for more information. I will be updating info on my blog as well, when I have dates and details.

THEN, to top it all off, we headed home to the Central Coast after finishing our class to attend the Central Coast Business Achiever Awards where Pages 2 Scrap won the category for Best Specialty Store. How good is that? BIG congratulations to Tracey and the girls for their achievement. I'm very proud to be a part of the team.

Sheridan's Wedding Card

Many years ago (ahem) when my husband and I were married, we were lucky enough to have the most adorable flower girl in our wedding party, my husband's niece, Sheridan. And now we find ourselves about to travel down to witness her being married - where has the time gone?

I wanted to create something special for Sheridan by way of a card and so I got busy last night creating the first shabby style card I have made in a long time. I LOVED making this card from the minute I sat down and I'm very much looking forward to giving it away.

Something Vintage

If you've been reading my recent posts you will have noticed I'm a little obsessed with the colour RED at the moment. When I started Week 1 in Nic's class I was a little daunted by red and realised that I don't really use it very much in my layouts. I use pink ALL the time, but not much of red. I found it a dauntingly powerful colour and subconsciously avoided it. I say subconsciously because I actually love the colour red, just never seemed to scrap with it. I have found this week to be inspiring and a valuable learning experience. And I am so happy to have found my peace with this colour in my scrapbooking.

I love this page. The main photo shows my husband's grandparents on the occasion of their engagement. Sadly they have both passed now, but the memories remain special and treasured.

I have been thinking for a while that it might be time I broke out from the 12x12 box and have a go at something a little different for the scrapbook, so I finally got around to scrapping an A4 sized LO. Since the challenge for this week is to use the colour red on a page, I chose to do something with just the basics - black, white and red. It's not a palette I would usually try - actually it's a palette I don't think I've ever played around with - but it turned out ok. In a cheesy kind of way. I don't usually scrap myself either, so maybe I am being a little critical. You decide.

Clamshell Minibook

About a year or so ago I read an article in a scrapbooking magazine showcasing a minibook that had been made using a real clamshell. It was just fabulous, very fragile, but amazingly beautiful. Since reading the article I've wanted to make a clamshell mini myself but hadnt gotten around to it until now. I drew and cut out a template from chipboard for the front and back covers, crimped and folded some cardstock for texture and used paint, embossing powder, glimmer mist and glitter to decorate to look like a shell. Then all I needed to do was cut some pages from cardstock and clear acetate and bind them all together with the Cinch. I used loads of colour to decorate the photographs we took while we were on the Western Australia north coast in 2002 - yes, it was about time I did something with these since they are fabulous photos and hold some great memories. And in case you didn't notice, I love colour.

A close up of the cover - the silver seahorse embellishment has been in my stash for a bit over a year waiting for the perfect project. I think I found it.

The first couple of pages show a photograph of the tiny shells which made up the sand on one of the beaches. These were AMAZING and made the beach look pure white, though not easy to walk on. I've never seen anything like it before and would dearly love to go back for another visit.

I used Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze and Glimmer Glam to add super colour to the background pages on these. The effect is something like a lacquered look, but with the ease of a water based product. If you haven't had a go at these products yet - what are you waiting for? These pages totally scream HEAT and summer, which is exactly how it was when we were there. Check out that blue sky and white sand. Heaven....

It's hard to believe that a beach so pristine and beautiful was as deserted as it was. There was hardly another person around so it felt like we had the whole world to ourselves.

There were so many great moments on this holiday, but this truly was a highlight when the wild dolphins came in from the ocean to feed and play. Visiting Monkey Mia was one of the greatest holidays we ever had and I often daydream of going back. And we will....one day...

Red

Week one of Colour! Or is it Color? on the Big Picture Classes blog kicked off yesterday with a big bang in the form of the colour red. I spent a couple of hours last night going through all the class literature, taking it all in, listening to audio, watching streamed video and then playing around with a few ideas for the class projects. This class is FABULOUS, and I couldn't wait to get in and get started. Alas I had to work today but I've managed to put together my first LO for the class - which I totally wanted to share. I still have a couple of smaller projects to tackle yet but I have the rest of the week and I plan on doing another LO for the main sketch and challenge, perhaps in a different style. I'll be thinking that over. But in the meantime, here is my first finished project for the class.

Colour - or is it Color? Pre-class project

Yesterday I posted some information about an online class I decided to take - Nic Howard's Colour - or is it Color?. I spent the rest of the day creating tags for the pre-class project and had an absolute ball doing this. Exploring the colours of the rainbow, we used different techniques on all the tags, and the result is quite stunning as we used the entire spectrum. I think my tagmaking techniques have improved a bit, don't you?

Tagtime - Christmas

Of course I had to make a Christmas themed tag to add to my collection, and I was so taken with the end result that I am considering creating a bunch of tags this year to send out instead of traditional cards. I love the idea that these can be added to the tree as decorations instead of being thrown out after Christmas is done for the year. What a wonderful tradition this could turn into. With that said, it's time to start thinking about making all these tags otherwise Christmas will be on top of me before I realise it.

One of the blogs I regularly visit for inspiration or just to check out what's happening in the world of scrapbooking is the Prima blog. It's an absolute "must" for anyone who is into scrapbooking, papercrafts, cardmaking or altered projects. I have long been a fan and look forward to each and every new post or update.

Recently there was a post giving information on an online workshop being held by Nic Howard on behalf of Big Picture Classes. The photograph of Nic's beautiful tags totally got me interested in investigating more and I ended up signing for the class, which starts in just a few days from now. We are going to be exploring the use of colour in craft projects. To my amazement Nic has been experimenting with the use of colour on tags which ties in with the projects I have been posting on my blog recently. So I've found myself creating even more tags today inspired by Nic and her upcoming online class. I've left links in this post for anyone who might be interested in joining up as well, and judging by the pre-class project this ought to be a fabulous experience.

I just LOVE how this tag turned out. I have used the large butterfly stamp in this project many times on many projects and I keep coming back to it. I guess you could say it's one of my staple favourites. Stamping the image in a shade of plum and covering it with chunky style clear glitter crystals gives it a beautiful soft look. I added some vintage images of flowers for a garden theme. Enjoy.

I can never seem to get enough of the Tattered Angels Font Frames. They decorate up so wonderfully and really make a statement on a card, LO or altered project. A little bit of ink around the edges and a sprinkling of glitter turns a simple chipboard shape into something of beauty and a real eye catching embellishment. I can see this tag making it's home on a girlie scrapbook page somewhere in the near future.

I made a few tags recently and decided to put them on my blog but seeing as there are a handful I thought it might be fun to post one a day for the next week or so. I just love the idea of tags, they are just so versatile in papercrafts. You can use them as a scrapbooking embellishment or easily turn them into a card, add them to a gift or whatever else you can think up.

So here's a tag with a halloween theme. Being Australian we don't generally celebrate the US holiday but I just couldnt resist these wonderfully whimsical Alice themed papers, and who can resist that colour scheme?

Time to post up some sneaks of my upcoming classes at Pages 2 Scrap. I've had a great time creating some girly layouts, a vintage mini album and some Christmas cards - yes, it's that time of the year again. I've had glimmer and glam from one end of my scrap room to the other, I've been covered in glitter and paint with inky fingers and scrap room chaos! I've had such a great time! * Create half a dozen cards using some fabulous stamps from Darkroom Door and Unity Stamps. We will be having fun with glitter, embossing powders and some clever inking techniques.

* I always love using Prima products and in this class we will be using DSP and some fabulously large stunning blooms from the latest range to hit the shelves. This is a bright and colourful girlie page - just perfect for that little princess in your life.

* In this class we will be creating a fabulous little vintage style minibook using an album kit from 7 Gypsies. We needed a little extra time for this class, so allow 3 hours to come along. Learn how to turn new products into something that looks like it was found in Granny's attic.

* Create a 12x12 layout in soft neutral tones suitable for a male or female page. We will be using a Tim Holtz die to make our own flower embellishment to include on the page.

Thought I'd drop in and do a special blog update for one of the girls down at Pages 2 Scrap and share a couple of things I've worked on undercover. I've always enjoyed a challenge, but as a consequence of this I rarely seem to get around to creating something "just for the hell of it". When I'm looking for a project to work on and I've nothing going on then I usually find myself scouring the challenge sites. What can I say, I guess I just love the thrill of a challenge!

The past, the present and the future

Hi guys. Sadly my blogging has taken a backseat lately but I thought I would drop by and give you an update and perhaps a small look into whats to come. As I've talked about before, I've recently joined the team at Pages 2 Scrap and I've been having a fabulous time teaching some great scrapbooking techniques, meeting lots of new people, spending lots of time talking about scrapbooking and papercrafting and of course keeping up to date with whats happening in the world of papercrafting. There are -always- new things going on, never a dull moment to be had and so much inspiration to be found in all kinds of places. I feel so priveleged to be a part of such a dynamic and telented group of ladies. Does life get any better than this?

I've added the Pages 2 Scrap logo in the top right hand corner of my blog for easy access to upcoming classes and current happenings. Be sure to drop by and take a look for yourself, there is always something exciting going on.

The past - I've been keeping myself busy designing projects for the shop to teach and to inspire. One of my favourites so far is a layout using Mama Razzi papers with lots of gorgeously bright colours, adding a photo of my eldest when she was at preschool. My heart sings whenever I look at this LO, it reminds of all those precious memories from when she was a little girl.

Another recent class I taught used loads of pre-glittered labels. I used shades of pink and soft green to create a baby page and added an enlarged and cropped photo of one of my babies as the focal point. We had a fabulous time turning those pre-packaged labels into embellishments, with lots of layering techniques to create dimension.

The present - I currently have 3 projects for upcoming classes going, the first of which is a kids class where we will be creating the most adorable little mini book to add some favourite photos. Interested in a few free hours during the school holidays? Why not send your kids along for this fun class.

There is also a very vintage page with lots of glimmer and lace, and a tricky technique with paper layering. So dig out a favourite family portrait shot and head over to the shop for a couple of hours of creative heaven. Here is a sneak:

The last of these three current class projects is one that is very close to my own heart - I was absolutely thrilled to have been given some of the new Prima products to play with from their "Fairy Flora Collection"! Oh I know, we all love Prima. This time I've created a beyond the page project, and I just put the finishing touches on it earlier today. It's currently waiting to be photographed, but the sample will be in the shop tomorrow for everyone to see. I can't wait to teach this one. Sorry, no sneak of this one today.

The future - I received another fabulous booty of goodies a few days ago which I cannot wait to get into. This project will be entirely different to my usual style - think bright, unisex, entirely modern. There is an upcoming card class and a Christmas wreath using Kaiser products in a shabby style.

My own grand ideas - My daughter and I took a trip into Erina Fair on the Central Coast for a day of shopping and girlie fun. We found a fabulous handbag and some great new clothes for summer. We also discovered a new shop which I'd never seen before called "Typo", and they stock large wooden letters in black, white or raw finishes. I was so excited I purchased symbols and letters to spell the word $CR@P to decorate and mount on the wall in my scrap room. Looking forward to getting started on that.

Some exciting news

I was so thrilled to have received a phonecall from Alex over at Pages 2 Scrap a couple of weeks ago asking if I would be interested in applying to teach at their fabulous scrapbooking outlet. Would I? Well, yes! So I went along with my albums, had a chat with the wonderful girls down there and I'm so very excited to be able to say that I will be holding my first class on Monday 16th August at 10.30am. Details plus a sneak peak of the layout can be found here. I will be showcasing a clever ribbon technique and talking about balance and coordinating colour with your photographs to give you that "wow" result. Imagine - TCR #7

I tried a different style to anything else I have done for this challenge, using the bright summery colour palette to create a "storybook" feel to the page. I altered the photo of my little girl using copics and added some wings to dress her up like a bumblebee and went about creating a fantasy like garden as seen through the eyes of a child. I've used lots of glimmer mist and prima flowers, random ribbons from my stash, a chipboard vintage lamp post, paints, rubber stamps and a lot of drawing and doodling. This was loads of fun to create.

Mini Pillow Boxes - out of scraps!

Here's a fun little project which uses up some of those pieces of scrap paper and embellies we all inevitably have lying around somewhere. These days I find my drawer full of "scraps" of scrapbooking stuff is getting a little out of hand so I'm always happy to find a project which uses up some of these offcasts. It's probably hard to tell from the photograph, but these little babies measure about 3 x 2 1/2 inches, so they are a perfect size for a gift of jewellery or smaller items. I used a Sizzix Pillow Box Die in my Cuttlebug after piecing together some random pieces of DSP. Fast? It's almost -too- fast. All that's left to be done is tape the box together down one side, fold and decorate!

Precious - TPE Scrapbook #7

So I couldnt help myself but to participate in The Pink Elephant challenge for this week since it was a combination of both of these things. I found the pinkest photograph I could in my stash and set to work on a super pinked up page.

The Color Room #6 - Love 2 Play

I found this weeks TCR challenge -quite- a challenge for me since the combination isnt one that I dabble in much. The bright blue's threw me. I rummaged through my paper stash (shamefully out of control paper stash) and somewhere towards the bottom I found a piece of DSP by Daisy Bucket Designs from their In The Meadow series which has a chocolate brown background with some large white flowers scattered around the page. I pulled out some Copic markers in the shades of the rest of the palette and coloured the flowers to coordinate. This was the original paper:

Roses Frame - Beyond The Page

Some weeks ago I stumbled across a few blogs which had been experimenting with making paper roses and creating some "off the page" projects. I was so impressed with the results and decided to try my hand at a project of my own using the handmade roses technique. I have had a couple of handcarved frames in the back of the cupboard for some years now and dug one of them out to use. I gave the frame a couple of coats of paint in a pale pink hue. I originally wanted to use a crackle look on the frame but decided it looked fairly sweet as was. Using some old music sheets I found in a second hand book retailer, I made a dozen roses to fill the frame and glued them in place with some spray adhesive. Then I went about adding a fair amount of Glimmer Mist in 2 shades of pink, a lighter vintage pink and a darker cherry pink, and added a dash of Strawberry Shortcake chalkboard mist (new release). But it just wasnt pink enough at that point so I brought out the big guns - Scarlet mist and gave it a bit of a spritz. This colour was just enough to make the roses burst out of the frame. A light coat of Old Lace was the final touch and I was quite chuffed with the results. Tattered Angels should be paying me! So now I have a perfectly pink frame to hang in the pink room.

The Color Room #5

The Color Room challenge for this week is a beautiful palette of soft colours with a gorgeous map that totally screams "girlie". When I looked at the map it immediately brought visions of ribbons and lace, pearls and glitter and so this is the resulting page I came up with:

I've used a lot of my favourites on this page, from Prima to Glimmer Mist, Tim Holtz Glossy Accents, assorted ribbons and laces and crackle paint. The photo is one taken a few years ago now of the girls dressed up in old fashioned garb. They are both teenagers at the moment but I still have one who likes ribbons and pearls and all things feminine. I love my old photos and use them often when I'm scrapbooking.

I've been enjoying these challenges hugely the past couple of weeks. The colour combinations AND a sketch has definately been keeping me entertained, and the amount of talent turning up in The Color Room has been amazing. This weeks challenge was a gorgeous combination of purple, turquoise, white and lime green.

The Color Room - Palette #2

I decided on a slightly more masculine look for The Color Room palette #2, going for an earthy look. But I couldn't help myself really, had to have that touch of bling somewhere, and so crowned my husband's head with some gloriously glittered up headgear. Not sure he's entirely rapt in the idea but I think he knows better than to argue with a woman armed with Kindy Glitz. In any case, it's a lovely photo of my better half.

And a couple of closer looks:

As a consequence, or accidental discovery, I found that glimmering over my long border flourish to create a shadow effect also had the added bonus of a "leopard skin print" look on my flourish! I'd like to be able to say this was fully intentional, but alas it was quite by accident but I was instantly impressed with my discovery.

The Color Room - palette #1

I was so excited when I found The Color Room challenge site and I couldnt wait to get started on the first challenge. Alas, life got in the way and I found myself having to put it off for a while - but never mind! Today I got stuck into the first challenge and I simply LOVED the palette that was given to us. Gotta love those soft feminine hues. So here's the palette for inspiration...

A close-up of some of the detail. The acetate sheet with white text printed on it is the insert of a Prima flower packaging. I just adore packaging with a dual purpose.

Mini Debutante LO

Websters Pages just keep coming out with the most beautiful designs with which to scrap or papercraft on. They make it so easy and stress free - what's not to love about their recent releases. This formal photograph of my eldest daughter goes beautifully with the classic style of Websters and this was probably one of the fastest layouts I've ever done. The elegance of the background paper needed little embellishment.

Mistified - Sydney

A couple of weeks ago I came across the advertisement for Mistified and was so excited that Tattered Angels was coming out to Australia and I simply cannot -wait- for 3rd May! At first I was a little reluctant at the price ($199US) but after seeing the fabulous kits full of glimmer mist goodness that we get on the day, the price is actually quite reasonable - in fact probably more than generous.

But anyway, I cannot WAIT. Super excited. Check it out.

This layout came together really fast and was so fun to create. Everything just seemed to fall into place, which was so nice because it doesn't always happen that way as most people would know. I love how the colours compliment and highlight my daughter's beautiful happy face.

Shabby Door Hanger

I was rumaging through my filing cabinet and came across this flower shaped door hanger I had long forgotten about and decided to dust it off and decorate it to use on one of the girls' rooms. It had to be pink, it had to be shabby and it had to have sparkle, ribbons and lace because anything less just wouldnt do.

I dug deep into my stash and found some gorgeous old Basic Grey paper - love! It's amazing what you find when you start looking.

Hi all. It's been quite a while since I've posted anything towards my blog...I know - so slack of me. I could offer all kinds of excuses but the bottom line is that I'm back on track and I have been scrapping again lately. Hallelujah! I can't stress enough how much I have enjoyed returning to my much-loved papercrafting. And its more than a hobby, it's a retreat and I hadn't realised how much I had missed creating. At first I just wanted to take some downtime and that accidentally turned into a 6 month block. Thank you to my dearest friend, Jeanne for getting me back on track.

Some scrapbooking love will follow up shortly. Sorting out software on a new computer so I'm hoping this will all be up and running within the week.

A Little Bit of Vaudeville Fun

A fun little challange over at the Bad Girls had me inspired to create a tiny album (4"x4") and I decided on a circus or vaudeville theme. I had such fun creating this little piece of artwork using all kinds of bits and pieces from my stash. It started out just simply as a few squares of plain paper and quickly evolved into a painted/embossed/highly be-decorated keepsake.

Wow what a week it's been and I can hardly believe Sketchfest is nearly over since I've been looking forward to this for what seems like a very very long time. The sketches have been just wonderful and I can honestly say I have enjoyed every minute of it all. So, without any more mucking about here's my final card for the festival:

Sketchfest 2009 - Caardvarks VI

I went for a shabby/vintage look for this sketch and pulled out some of my Stampin Up pattern papers along with a text print background paper from October Afternoon. The flowers are all handmade from the SU papers and I vintaged them up using Sahara Sand ink and Buff Gold embossing powder from Celebrations of Australia. The buttons are all vintage buttons I picked up at a craft show I went to a few months back, I've embellished one of them with Kaiser pearls and the Twill Tape is from SU. The overall effect I was after was that of an old and tattered book.

For the fifth sketch I've gone for a Christmas themed card with some Cosmo Cricket papers. You just can't go past CC for divine colour, quality and pattern - every time I use their products I just love them more and more. The sketch for today immediately reminded me of an envelope and so I've styled my card on an envelope design. Here's the sketch:

and my interpretation. I don't generally get into the Halloween spirit since it's traditionally an American holiday and we don't celebrate it in Australia. But when I looked at the sketch I immediately started cooking up a little something creepy.

and I loved every second creating this card - it was just sweet from beginning to end. The finished card measures 10.5cm x 10.5cm (approx. 4"x4") so it's the perfect size to add to a gift or to use as a card.
