Escape 2 Create - It's A Wrap!

The past couple of weeks have been hectic. Meeting deadlines, maintaining my online shop, taking care of my family and enjoying some house guests.

In between all these things I took some time out to get away to the little coastal town of Port Lincoln in South Australia to teach at one of the most exciting scrapbooking events in Australia - Escape 2 Create. I can't tell you how thrilled I was to be invited to do this. Five days of scrapping fun. And if you ever get the chance to go I highly recommend it.

I got to meet and teach alongside some amazing Australian talent. Here's a photo of Leanne Allinson and myself taken just before E2C started. I've known Leanne online for a couple of years now having served on Design Teams together so having the opportunity to meet her face to face has been such a highlight for me.

I also got to spend loads of time getting to know these two amazing creatives who also taught their stuff - Chantalle McDaniel and Fiona Paltridge. Oh my goodness, these two are just so much fun! I think the photo here really shows off their personalities perfectly.

So the reason I was there was to teach, yeah? I created this bright and fun layout to teach using loads of BasicGrey goodies and featuring a customised background. Everyone really seemed to enjoy learning a few of the techniques I use to get this look and I was just completely blown away with everyone's layouts - there was just so much talent in that classroom!

I have to thank BasicGrey for their generosity in helping to sponsor the weekend by throwing in a boxful of giveaways! What a great weekend.

Brand New Collection From Blue Fern Studios

Today I'm really excited to be showing off a brand new collection from Blue Fern Studios - Deja Vu

I love the combination of soft pastel colours and vintage style images and can't wait to share my creations.

I'm not sure I can choose a favourite paper yet but I'm really partial to green shades so you might be able to guess which one is catching my eye ;) Here's a closer look at a couple -

And of course every new collection needs some new coordinating accessories. There are some amazing new chipboard designs available along with four brand new stamp set releases.

Gorgeous, yes?

Words & Paintery - March Challenge

Well we are halfway through March already! This means it's time for a new palette and challenge for the Words & Paintery blog

I've added a tonne of texture to this piece using fibrous papers and weaves to build up colour and design, following this month's colour challenge.

Here's the new prompt featuring some lyrics from Bruce Springsteen. Fun colours to play with!

Let Your Dreams Set Sail

Hi guys. Today I wanted to share a layout I created for BasicGrey featuring one of the new collections, Adrift.

I always enjoy a nautical themed collection and have loads of beach/coastal photographs to scrap. These two photographs were taken on the West Australian coast near Monkey Mia - such a beautiful part of the world.

There are so many lovely things about Adrift but I think my favourite embellishment has to be those adorable gold resin shells I've used underneath the sailing boat image on the left of my design. Oh, I just love these!

Thanks so much for dropping by, you can find more detailed photographs on the BasicGrey blog here.

Scrapbooking Memories - January 2015

One of the highlights in 2015 for me is that I am writing the Arty articles for Scrapbooking Memories magazine. I was absolutely thrilled to be asked to take this on and I get to share some of my thoughts and ideas on mixed media style scrapbooking throughout the coming year.

I decided to approach this by featuring a variety of mediums throughout the year and talk about how they can be applied to our everyday scrapbooking projects along with a look at how these products are used traditionally and what they are all about.

And since it's been 3 months since my first article has been published I can now share on my blog the projects I created for the January edition.

My first topic focusses on watercolours and how they can be applied to our scrapbooking projects. Watercolours are absolutely HUGE in scrapworld right now and they are looking like they might be here to stay - one of my firm favourite mediums for sure.

The two layouts I created for January's feature both used watercolour effects to create backgrounds for my layouts. This article can be found in the v17 n10 edition of Scrapbooking Memories.

Thanks for calling in, I hope you enjoyed the article!

Two New Layouts For Blue Fern Studios

Hello everyone! Today I want to share my latest creations for Blue Fern Studios using both the Montage and Sanctuary collections.

My first layout was inspired by the large Blue Fern clockface chipboard piece which is just stunning. I've painted it up to give it a vintage feel in a soft shade of blue, adding chalks to the edges.

I've also used lots of the cog pieces from the Cogs & Gears pack, again giving them the vintage treatment.

Montage really makes me want to get back to my fussy cut and layering techniques - there are so many gorgeous images in these papers and they all come together so well.

I've really gone back to my shabby chic roots adding lots of beautiful flowers for that gorgeous dimensional girlie look.

My second project for today features patterned papers from the Sanctuary collection. For the layout I was inspired to use some snapshots taken of the girls when they were little while we were on a bushwalk in a national park.

I've teamed my papers with some fun chipboard elements, painting them up with watercolours to really give them that wow effect. This is one of my very favourite techniques at the moment and I am really enjoying adding painted chipboard elements to my projects.

I've left some of the "waste" chipboard in this piece just giving them a hint of colour, applying more intense colour to the lattice. Aren't the bird images gorgeous!

These Berry Stems look fantastic painted in red and really make a bold statement.

And lastly I've added a simple title "joy" to finish off. All I've done to this piece is to add a coat or two of a neutral coloured paint to match my background papers then used a Sharpie to add some doodled detail. Loving this look too at the moment.

Thanks for dropping by, I hope you've enjoyed my projects for Blue Fern Studios for the March.

Blue Fern Studios Sketch Challenge - March

Hello everyone! The beginning of a new month means a brand new sketch challenge for Blue Fern Studios and today I wanted to share my interpretation of the sketch.

I've rotated the sketch adding one of the clockfaces from the Large Roman Clock Set and using it to frame my photograph along with a couple of gorgeous flourish pieces for some flair.

My patterned papers come from the brand new Love Story collection - which I just totally love - and I've also used some of the new Blue Fern stamps to add some further detail to my background. Here's a look at the sketch this month -

Thanks for dropping in today, you can find more inspiration from the team along with some fantastic inspiration here.
