December @ Words & Paintery

The brand new challenge for December has been revealed over on the Words & Paintery blog, with a gorgeous palette of pinks and sky blue.

I really enjoyed playing with this palette and feel like it's been forever since I've participated in a colour challenge and I've really missed this way of creating.

I've created lots of fun layers using paint, texture paste, gesso, wire, tissue and paper scraps to build colour and texture - just building pattern and design intuitively for an eclectic mixed media look.

I've also used just part of my original photograph, cutting into it to create focus on just on half of my daughters' face.

Here's a look at this month's challenge, pretty shades of pink and that gorgeous sky blue along with our word prompt: Shimmer & Shine.

Hope to see your take this month on this new challenge - there are some amazing prizes up for grabs! Find all the details here on the Words & Paintery blog.

Scrap Muse

Today I wanted to call in to talk a little about my little online mixed media store, Scrap Muse and to give an update on where I've been and what I've been up to these past couple of months.

I've always had a dream to open my own little shop stocking my favourite products and supplies, and a couple of months ago this became a reality.

I'm now at the point where I have many of my favourite products in stock, learning and slowly building things up to a point where I am really happy with where this is going. Many of the products I have in store are things I have used over and over and have a huge love for and the list is growing.

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me so far in my new adventure, and I look forward to expanding and growing with you over the next year and beyond.

Words & Paintery

I have a brand new adventure about to start and I can't wait to get started. Words & Paintery is a new challenge blog offering a monthly colour challenge and prompt - and the best thing? It has a mixed media slant which is completely suited to my style.

I'm really looking forward to sharing some creativity inspired by my new adventure and look forward to seeing you there. Mixed media style creatives will love this!

BasicGrey Free Project Sheet Download - Wish List Clipboard

Here's a little early Christmas gift from me and BasicGrey - a free downloadable project sheet with step x step instructions on how to recreate this sweet "dear santa" clipboard.

Have your child fill out his or her wish list for the year and hang it either near your tree or next to their beds. After Christmas you can then simply remove the wish list from the clipboard, add it to a piece of coordinating patterned paper or cardstock along with some journaling and photograph(s) and your layout is complete. A great way to document a lovely Christmas memory.

Enjoy!

BasicGrey Aurora Collection - Some Kind Of Wonderful

Hi again everyone! Today I'm up on the BasicGrey blog with one of my latest creations using the new release Aurora collection.

I've used an earlier arty project as my inspiration piece today - an old CD that I've repurposed into a small artwork and you can find the original post on my blog here.

Today I've simply decorated an old CD to coordinate with the Aurora collection and created my layout around this feature. You can find more information on how I went about this on the BasicGrey blog here

Thanks for dropping by today, I know we are all a little busier than usual with the Christmas season already here. I hope you are all more organised then me.

Artbooking - It's A Thing

Not so long ago Lisa Oxley and I were discussing art journal concepts and the reasons behind what we create in our journals. You see I have this basic love of art journals and I absolutely ADORE a brand new journal but somewhere into the first few pages I seem to lose direction. This got me thinking. Why not combine my two great creative loves into one? And thus, Artbooking became a thing.

My sample today uses lots of gorgeous colour created with a combination of Ranger Dylusions ink sprays, Delta Ceramcoat matte acrylic paint, a gorgeous new stencil from Stencil Girl Designs and a scrap of Idea-ology Tissue Paper. I’ve used a simple piece of paper towelling to create texture on my page, adhering it in place with some matte medium.

I love using non-conventional junky objects to stamp paint onto my creations – in this case I’ve used a cotton bud for the small yellow polka dots and an old plastic lid from a spray bottle, both the open end and the flat top for different effects.

My title “BREATHE” was created with texture paste and one of the new stencils to the shop, Stencil Girl Uplifting Words, allowed to dry and then painted over the top using colours to coordinate the rest of my page.

The only thing left to do now on my page is to add some handwritten journaling about the photograph I’ve used – thank you Jo!

Arty supplies:

Ranger Dylusions Art Journal
Ranger Dylusions Ink Spray -
Calypso Teal,  Lemon Zest,  Fresh Lime
Delta Ceramcoat matte acrylic paint –
Cantalope, Watermelon, Poppy Orange, Opaque Yellow, Fuschia, Laguna Blue, Lisa Pink and Green
Stencil Girl Stencil – Uplifting Words
assorted washi tapes
Idea-ology Tissue Wrap

2015 Scrapbooking Memories Creative Team

Exciting news!

I've been sitting on this little secret for a while now but I can finally reveal that I have been working behind the scenes creating articles for next years' Scrapbooking Memories magazine. I'll be talking about product, technique and various design applications with a mixed media spin for your scrapbooks. There will be lots of inspiration and great ideas to draw from. Can't wait to see it all in print!

BasicGrey Vivienne Collection - So Very Lovely!

Hello everyone. Today I thought I would drop in to share a recently layout created for BasicGrey using the new Vivienne collection. I wanted to use the Vivienne Alphabet Stickers in a unique way, so rather than peel the letters off one by one to use them on my page I decided instead to use the waste to add instant color, texture and design! Yes, I’m scrambling through all my old BasicGrey collections too now looking for more alpha sheets – this is such a cool way to use them and I'm just loving this idea!

For a closer look at this layout and more detail including closeups please see my post on the BasicGrey blog here

Thanks for calling in today. Can you believe it's December already? Oh my goodness, where did this year get to? I'm really disorganised this year, though I tend to be most years. I haven't given Christmas a thought yet so it will be a mad dash to get everything done. I hope you are all way ahead of me.
