Art Journal Mixed Media Santa

Today I wanted to drop in and share one of my latest art journal entries - a sweet little whimsical Santa Claus. When I sat down to create this little guy the only reference I used was a gorgeous stamp from Deep Red Stamps - My World - which I stamped onto paper using permanent ink, cut out and collaged into place and then painted over adding my details with Ceramcoat Matte Acrylic paint and Prismacolor Pencils.

For whatever reason I pictured this little character wearing a Santa Claus costume and running with stars shooting from his tiny hands. I think perhaps I am starting to feel the Christmas season coming on!

If you're into this style of art journaling, please visit me on my other blog here dedicated to this side of my creativity.

Thanks for joining me today :)

12 Days Of Christmas Cards - Ingvild Bolme and Alphabets

It's less than four weeks left until Christmas now, so another card for the Prima 12 Days Of Christmas Cards challenge was on my to do list. For this one I have combined two of the challenges - to use Ingvild Bolme products and also the Alphabets challenge.

My card started out as an empty flower packet which I coated with gesso and added some brickwork stamping using the Prima Brick Stamp and Ingvild Bolme Fluid Chalk ink in Shabby Tote which I then lightly penned over in a Sepia coloured Copic Multiliner for definition. Of course I've added some Prima alpha stickers in keeping with the challenge theme along with some flowers, fussy cut elements and canvas snowflakes from Holiday Jubilee and a sweet little Ingvild Bolme Shabby Chic bird.

Thanks for dropping in, have a good day xx

Limor Webber Inspired Mixed Media Layout

Yesterday I had the greatest pleasure in attending an all day class with the amazing Limor Webber who is in Australia at the moment spreading her special kind of magic. There were so many wonderfully talented and beautiful ladies in this class, including my good friend Nadia Cannizzo who I always love to spend time with, and Lizzy Hill who deserves an extra special thank you for driving me and my little car back to the coast!

I learned so many great techniques and fun ways to use them and the day went by just too quickly, and today I just wanted to drop by to share one of my completed projects.

Holly - Heidi Swapp Mixed Company collection for The Scrapbook Store

This is my fourth layout created using my November kit for The Scrapbook Store which features papers and embellishments from the Heidi Swapp Mixed Company collection

It's been so much fun playing around with this kit, and there are so many different looks and colours you can choose to run with. I absolutely adore that you can mix and match your papers and elements, choosing to custom colour them if you wish to suit your layout. In this layout I've chosen to keep the star and heart element as well as my title white but they are stunning when you add a touch of your fave Color Shine mist. The Banners pack comes with a coloured and glittered side, but can just as easily be flipped over to the white side and spritzed to suit yourself, like I've done on this layout giving it a trendy watercolour look.

Hope you've enjoyed my samples for Mixed Company this month - I feel especially blessed to have had this kit while Heidi has been in Australia teaching her thing and I think we have all just gone a little Heidi mad lately.

Thanks for dropping by xx

Soft Kitty Layout Using Websters Pages Postcards From Paris II - Sketchbook 365

This month I had some fun creating a layout for Sketchbook 365 - the new sketch for December is here already and it's gorgeous! Plus I got to play with Websters Pages Postcards From Paris II collection which is stunning! I'm absolutely loving those supersized butterflies, the metal balloon embellishments and of course, the patterned papers which Websters do so well. I think this is one of my favourite layouts now - and features a photograph of my lovely little Burmese friend taken when she was a kitten about 6 months ago now. That sweet little face just melts me.

So here is a copy of the new sketch to play with - I hope you can join us for our December challenge!

Smile - Marion Smith Designs Mad Tea Party collection

I did mention a few posts ago it was turning out to be a busy month right? Yes, I am sure I did. So here I am back with some more Marion Smith Designs inspiration - this time something a little more hmmm ... contemporary. There are just so many scrap style I enjoy creating with and I love that the Mad Tea Party collection lends itself to all of them.

I've really run with the bold turquoise and rose reds in this line and I'm loving how this one turned out too!

For a more in depth look at the products I've used as well as some close up photographs, please see my post here.

Thanks for calling in xx

Cherish - Prima November BAP

Here is my take on the November BAP sketch on the Prima blog featuring the gorgeous Delight collection. Every time I pull this collection out of my stash I stop to admire the soft pastel colours and classic shabby design - simply breathtaking and one of my favourite collections this year for sure.

I've also added some pretty as ever Prima flowers, an Ingvild Bolme shabby chic butterfly, some canvas leaves coloured with Distress Stain and a Prima Say It In Studs flourish.

If you haven't got your entry in there is still time. Here is the sketch:

Relax - November Prima Product Pick

One challenge I've never played along with is the Prima Product Pick challenge, so this month I decided it was high time. I picked up on the grey/lavender shade mostly but I've included other elements from the PPP including orange, warm grey and wood grain.

I've also recreated a basic design from a layout I made a while ago in summery colours using a flower half circle here, and I have to say that I'm really liking the different colour way. It's okay to CASE myself yeah?

Thanks for dropping by, it's turning out to be a big month on my blog - it's been a big year actually - and if I don't say it often enough it's you guys who keep coming back to my blog again and again who keep me motivated to keep going. Yeah, I'm talking about you :) xx

Sweet - Mad Tea Party collection

Isn't she lovely. My little shadow who follows me around every day and sleeps next to my desk on her cushion when I am spending time in my scrap room. And doesn't she take a sweet photo.

Today I wanted to share another layout created with the Mad Tea Party collection by Marion Smith Designs. I feel so lucky to be on this team and really enjoy creating with the products. I've used lots of layers and fussy cut elements in this page and really had fun with the colours. This whole page came together using scraps from previous layouts - torn strips of patterned papers and a few fun elements such as the clock faces and butterflies.

For more detail on this layout including a few closer photographs please see my post on the MSD blog here

Thanks for dropping by!

12 Days Of Christmas Cards - Day 1

My second card for the 12 Days Of Christmas Cards challenge on the Prima blog was created for the day 1 challenge - Holiday Jubilee. I love this Christmas collection, the colours and the classic images really drew me in from the start.

I created a Christmas tree ornament card - something I can send off to someone and it can be hung straight onto their tree. I love this idea and I created a few of these several years ago but wanted to recreate one for this challenge as it's such a sweet idea.

I've used several papers from the Holiday Jubilee range - one for my shaped base and then a few fussy cut layers to decorate. I've coloured the angel wings image at the top of the ornament with Prismacolor Pencils, added a couple of coordinating Prima flowers and a wood icon, again from Holiday Jubilee, for that finishing touch.

Thanks for calling in, I hope you are getting a start on your Christmas cards too!

12 Days Of Christmas - Finnabair Day 2

I've been following along with the Prima blog and their 12 Days Of Christmas challenge which I am dead keen to try my hand at. But, you know, since I can't stick to a recipe I've started my 12 days on day 2 which is to create a tag or a card inspired by Finnabair's collections - which are totally awesome of course. I've used a Prima tag base (it's actually two tags taped together down the left side to form a card) and the gorgeous Vanity Fair A4 Journaling Pad. Some torn strips of paper, inky edges, gesso, puffy paint - sounds a bit like heaven to me. I also dug out from the deepest darkest depths of my stash some Prima polka dot canvas elements which I've coloured up using Distress Stains - loving the look of this and thinking I might have to use this technique a bit more often. Isn't it great when you find new love for an older product! That canvas plume has got to be at least 2 years old, maybe 3!

I've also created a giant faux flair button by punching out a large circle from the Vanity Fair paper pad with an interesting vintage picture and added one of the large Sunrise Sunset Epoxy stickers - another interesting idea and very effective.

So what do you think? Too much fun? Sure is! And I'm getting a start on my Christmas cards this year.

Today - Heidi Swapp Mixed Company collection

Today I want to share my third project created for The Scrapbook Store using my Heidi Swapp Mixed Company collection kit. I feel like I should be saying something like..."and now for something completely different.." since this style of layout is quite different to anything I've seen created with this collection. But it just kind of happened - all said and done in about half an hour - which is an absolute world record for me. You know, I just had one of those moments of wild inspiration and half an hour later it there it was. It does help of course when you have your kit spread out on your desk already and a photo already printed up and ready to go. It's such a raw way to create. And I'm loving it!

Thanks for calling in, yay for the weekend!

Just Hangin' Around - Heidi Swapp Mixed Company Collection & Color Shine

Happy Friday! Friday's always feel a bit happy don't you think?

Today I wanted to share my second layout created using Heidi Swapp's Mixed Company collection and Color Shine.

The beauty of the Heidi products is that they are so mixable and matchable! In an earlier post this month I've used the same kit but with a different Color Shine mist and you get a totally different look! Today I've used Seafoam Color Shine on my background and the mistable "PLAY" ticket along with a touch of Mint Green Color Shine on the stripy star element for a fun variation in colour.

And that gorgeous vellum banner just totally rocks.

So here's to the weekend, hope it's a good one.

A Steampunk Style Christmas Layout Featuring Marion Smith Designs Nirvana Collection

Hi again. Today I wanted to share with you a layout I created using the stunning Nirvana collection from Marion Smith Designs. I love all the little bits ad pieces in these papers - and especially the adorable vintage style bowler and top hats and I've decided this year Santa needed a change of head wear. I'm thinking he is looking pretty dapper too!

This is one of my favourite Christmas photographs taken of the girls when they were young. Turning it into a subtle sepia toned print made it perfect for the steampunk style of layout I had in mind and I've built the whole layout around this top hat wearing Santa Claus.

I'm really loving how this layout turned out and I've also grown to love the Nirvana collection even more!

These are the papers I've used in this layout:

Heidi Swapp Mixed Company Collection & Color Shine

This month for The Scrapbook Store I get to play around with some of the new Heidi Swapp collection Mixed Company. It's a fun collection with lots, and I mean LOTS, of sweet elements to mix and match. I also have a couple of the Color Magic packs with the benefit of being able to custom colour these to suit your purpose with those gorgeous Color Shine Mists

Today I have created a background for my layout using Coral Color Shine Mist and coordinating my layers and elements to match. I've used some of the neutral papers in the Mixed Company collection as my layers, adding a splash of colour with that yummy seafoam/mint coloured banner and a row of sequin rub-ons - no glue, no mess, no hassle. I've also coloured both my Chipboard Alpha Stickers and a sweet star from the Resist Ephemera Pack in Coral Color Shine Mist to complete the page.

Thanks for dropping by, I look forward to sharing more of this collection soon.

Anika - November Sketch @ The Scrapbook Store

Time for my take on the new November sketch for The Scrapbook Store. This one was so easy for me to follow - it just seems to perfectly fit my scrapping style - and it came together really fast.

I've recently been playing around with some of the new heavy weight cardstock from Bazzill which has recently hit the store and I have to say I'm loving it. Because I often use wet mediums as a starting point to my layouts I sometimes find that normal cardstocks just don't like the way I treat them, so a heavier base really appeals to me. Ok so I've probably gone through about 6 sheets so far, had a few wins and had a few losses, but I have to say I'm loving it! Especially now that I've figured out the little quirks and personality traits. It still does warp a little - yeah alright I'm pretty hard on cardstock - but it's nothing that a quick iron doesn't fix right up. So if you love wet mediums on a layout as much as I do, yes I would recommend you give this a try.

Here's this months' sketch by Melinda Spinks. Hope to see you in the gallery!

The Day Has Come

Today I decided I need to separate my two great creative loves into two separate blogs since my arty side is really starting to run and I realise that not all papercrafters enjoy art and mixed media style creations. This is good news for you guys, it means you don't have to sort through the stuff you're not interested in seeing. And that's totally fine, I get that [insert smiley face here]

So for anyone who is actually interested in seeing this side to me, please visit my new blog here and sign up for updates. By the way, thanks for that! I love you too!

Also, bear with me while I get that blog sorted. It was a spur of the moment thing this morning so I am creating the blog on the fly. It's up and running but there is sure to be some fine tuning over the coming weeks. Hopefully some arty farty customising too!

Thanks guys! Enjoy the day!

A cool new challenge at 123!

Today I have a second post to share, so if you have landed here just now don't forget to scroll down for another fabulous challenge from OUAS!

There is another fun challenge up on the 123 blog today for November with a brand new prompt to play with. Cool you say? Absolutely! Our word for the month is cool! No, it really IS cool! Team it up with some groovy teal colour and dust off those stamps - we have ourselves a new challenge.

I have to say too that the entries for last month are absolutely fantastic - you guys are all so talented and it's great to see so many entries. And I'm not just saying that, I am really blown away by your creativity. Thank you so much for playing along with us at 123, hope to see more from you.

Ok so that's it for me today - two posts in one day is a bit of overload for my little blog. I'll be back in a few days with some more challenge inspiration.

Have a fun weekend xx

My Happy - Once Upon A Sketch

And another new month, can you believe it? It all just seems so crazy to me - the days, weeks, months, omigosh years are just flying by at the speed of light!

So with a new month comes lots of new inspiration from some of my favourite challenge blogs. I created this layout inspired by the November sketch challenge from Once Upon A Sketch along with the journaling theme, "My Happy Place". Well there is no place I am happier than at home with my family and surrounded by the things I enjoy most. My own little piece of heaven on this earth, you could say.

So, where is your happy place? Is it a house or home, another place you like to visit and spend time or is it something a little less tangible - somewhere only you can retreat to in your mind. There are so many ways to interpret this theme, I can think of many while I am just sitting here but I should keep my post short for fear of boring you all with my ramblings and I will look forward to seeing how -you- interpret the theme!

So hop on over - here is the link to the post - and a sneaky peak at our sketch this month!
