Love You - Marion Smith Designs Printables

I created this layout featuring some of the gorgeous printable designs available for download at the Marion Smith Designs website. I love how these designs all coordinate and work with each other - it's just too easy to put a layout together with that big wow factor. What else do I love about them? Well aside from the fact that they are just simply too beautiful, I love that because they are downloadable designs I can print and have them on hand forever! Too good to be true!

For more detail on the products I have used please see my post on the Marion Smith Designs blog here.

Thanks for calling in - hope you had a great weekend.

The Best Day - MME Cut & Paste Presh for The Scrapbook Store

For my third layout for The Scrapbook Store using My Mind's Eye Cut & Paste Presh collection I've gone with the yellow and blue tones to match my photographs. I love these photos of the girls when they were younger and I've been waiting for the right colours to turn up to scrap them - and this is it!

I've used gesso and Distress Paint to create the background effect. My grid design was created with my new WOW Alta Matz Cross Hatch Stencil, using it as a stamp then adding more colour and texture again with the stencil and some Zing Embossing Powder. I've then added lots of layers using patterned papers and elements from Cut & Paste Presh in colours to coordinate my photographs.

Thanks for stopping in - enjoy your day!

Mermaid Spectacular

Today I wanted to share my second mermaid created during Jane Davenport and Teesha Moore's Mermaid Circus online art class. Oh my goodness I am loving my time spent in the big top! I just love this little mixed media mermie and am looking forward to creating more and more, but for now I am putting my brushes down for a few days to work on other projects.

Thanks for dropping by - enjoy the rest of your day!

Reasons To Smile - Nirvana Collection by Marion Smith Designs

Hi everyone. Today I have a layout to share on the blog using papers and elements from the brand new Nirvana collection which is about to hit the stores any day now. This is such a fabulous combination of steampunk versus vintage with with just the right amount of feminine touch thrown in for good measure.

I've started my layout with the floral side of Nirvana Bliss patterned paper, adding layers using elements from Typograph and Family Record patterned papers. I just adore the top hat from the Documented paper so I have added that to my photograph for a bit of fun along with the sweet little butterfly from Family Record. Across the bottom of the layout I've created a banner using tickets and other ephemera elements found on both Documented and Family Record patterned papers.

This was a quick and easy layout to assemble and can be completed in well under an hour.

Thank you for dropping by today, I hope you are inspired to create your own Nirvana collection page.

Going Purple & A Shabby Tag - Green Tara

For my Green Tara projects this month I decided to mix it up a bit, so I've created an arty mixed media style layout and a classic shabby chic style tag showcasing how adaptable flowers can be.

I created my purple background in the layout using Dylusions Ink Spray and soap suds which gives amazing texture and patterns - this was my inspiration to create this piece. I just adore how beautiful a simple black and white photograph really comes to life with purple and white shades.

My second project is a very shabby chic style tag. I've used some amazing Green Tara flowers on this piece along with some leaves and a couple of coordinating lace trims - again from Green Tara. For more detail, close up photographs and a list of supplies used please see my post here.

Thanks for dropping by, have a great weekend!

Beautiful - MME Cut & Paste Presh

Today I wanted to share my second layout created using My Mind's Eye Cut & Paste Presh collection from The Scrapbook Store.

On this page I wanted something totally girlie, so I've used the softer, more pastel shades in the collection to do this. Lots of pale pink, some warm grey thrown in and just a touch of pale sky blue. I just love how this page turned out so differently to my previous layout using this same collection.

I've created my background on a chipboard base adding a layer of gesso, some Distress Stain, my new Grid Stencil from WOW, texture paste and opaque white embossing enamel. All the papers and elements are from the MME Cut & Paste Presh collection and the title is from Prima Finnabair Mechanicals Words 1 - super cute vintage style letters.

Thanks for dropping by, more shares using this collection to come.

Every Day With You Is Beautiful - MME Cut & Paste Presh

This month at The Scrapbook Store I get to play with the brand new My Minds Eye Cut & Paste Presh collection. There are lots of fun elements to play with - arrows, buttons, stripes and chevron patterns, teamed with a unique and fabulous colour scheme.

For my first layout I have used the deep burnt orange colour along with the mustard yellow and soft grey. I love that you can get lots of different looks from the one range and I have something completely different to share for my next layout using this same range. If I hadn't created these myself then I would doubt they were from the same collection!

My background design was created using one of the new WOW Alta Matz Stencils which are heavier, thicker and sturdier than most other stencils. You get insane dimension with these. I haven't tried misting through them yet but I am thinking there will be minimal bleeding because they tend to sit flatter on the page. But I'll let you know when I try that out.

Thanks for dropping by today, I'm off to cast my vote this afternoon and a walk on the beach sounds pretty nice too.

Mermaid Circus

A couple of days ago I mentioned I have been taking some mixed media art classes, and the latest one is the Mermaid Circus by Jane Davenport and Teesha Moore.

So here is my first mermaid page in my shaped art journal. I am just so thrilled to bits with the result and can't wait to start my next page. I've never really done much collage before now. My mermaids hair, right arm and face are magazine cuttings which I have painted over to blend in with the rest of the picture. The torso is hand painted. Her tail is pieced together and doodled to create this wonderful mix of colour and texture using collage techniques.

This is all just too much fun.

An Altered Brush - Marion Smith Designs

I have a fun little share today. This week as part of our Design Team work for Marion Smith Designs we have been challenged to recycle an old paintbrush and turn it into art. I adore these mixed media brushes and have wanted to create one ever since I saw the Donna Downey Altered Brush Project quite a while back now. Absolutely amazing work and totally inspiring.

So I asked my Simon to dig an old paintbrush out of the garage for me - he came back to me with this adorable old brush which served us well and I set about giving it a whole new life. I wanted to start with an ombre painted effect, adding some splashes for fun and working the paint down into the bristles of the brush. Then I added some torn strips of tape, a fussy cut flower border along with a large clockface with hands, butterfly and tickets from the beautiful downloadable Scarlet collection

There are more of these amazing altered paintbrushes from the rest of the Design Team over on the Marion Smith blog now. So much inspiration!

SUN Shine - The Scrapbook Store

My goodness, it's such a beautiful day here on the coast - the sun is shining and it really feels like spring is in the air - and my sketch layout for The Scrapbook Store looks the part. All that gorgeous sunshine bouncing around the photo has put me in the mood for summer to hurry on up and get here.

I took this photograph of the sea birds while Simon and I were having a holiday on the Western Australia coast at one of the National Parks we visited. They were very bold for wild birds, and I was able to get close enough to them to take this beautiful shot before they flew away. I just love how the light is bouncing around the picture and it really depicts sunshine.

I've used papers and elements leftover from my Basic Grey Carte Postale collection kit for August. Love all the wonderful travel themed elements in this collection and the colours just work so well - even with this blue background!

Don't forget there is a $40 gift voucher to the store plus free postage for entering and uploading your take on the sketch to our gallery every month. There is lots of fabulous inspiration there, so it's really worth a visit.

Thanks for dropping in again today, have a lovely sun shiny day!

Mermaid Circus

Just wanted to pop in today for a quick share on what I will be doing over the coming weeks. If you are at all interested in mixed media, love to create art, journals, or just paint and draw up a storm this might be something you will be interested in. But it is starting now! So be quick, and maybe we can travel this road together :)

Sweet Adorable You - 123 Challenge

Here is a fun new challenge this month and a chance to get your girly on. Yep, we're talking pink and flowers and please include the work "sweet" somewhere.

I went for a simple frame design because I just knew I was going to be using lots of pretty girly flowers and I really wanted them to just stand out and sing. Those pink/peach shades just take my breath away - I am finding I am loving these colours so much these days and I'm wanting to use them all the time. Hmm, yes, I just had a quick look over my blog page and there is plenty of pinky peach going on. And I'm sure there will be plenty more to come!

So, fun challenge, fun colours, fun elements to use and a fun word theme. Dare I say, pop on over for some fun?

Hope to see your entry in the 123 Challenge this month :)

Creating A Faux Antique Wallpaper Cover For A Mini Album

Hi guys. Remember this? Just a few days ago I shared this on my blog as part of a Design Team challenge for Marion Smith Designs.

Well I'm back again with a mini step-by-step on how I created the vintage wallpaper look on my cover. It's easy peasy to do, and can probably be figured out fairly easily on your own but I have included a few little tricks to make this last a lifetime. Please visit the blog post here for more info. Enjoy!

My Friend - Once Upon A Sketch

The first day of September - in Australia this means the beginning of Spring has arrived! The days are getting warmer again, the new flowers are beginning to show themselves and I've been in a pink mood! I find I've been turning more and more to my shabby chic scrapbooking roots, wanting to fill my pages with flowers, and pastel colours and lots of shabby touches.

My layout for the September challenge at Once Upon A Sketch was created on a plain chipboard base using printed tissue paper, paint, gesso, inks and tiny flowers. I've painted up some Imaginarium Designs chipboard including an oval frame and letters, both upper and lower case. I've also used some cream coloured trim from Scrapbook Fantasies.

Absolutely loved the sketch this month, so easy to create with and the journal prompt for September is "Lucky". I hope you can play along with us this month, it's such a fun theme and wonderful sketch.
