Wander - CSI #87 & A Watercolour Card For A Piece Of Cake Designs

Good morning! OR evening, or afternoon depending on where you are in the world! Today I have not one but TWO shares on my blog - a layout I created as a little extra Design Team work for 2Crafty as a Guest Designer at CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration challenge blog and a little watercolour card I made for A Piece Of Cake Designs as my last project Guest Designing for July.

This week I was extra lucky with the colour palette, some of my all time faves are used - minty greens, soft pink, creamy white - my goodness, so much love in one palette. I chose a couple of photographs of my husband walking along a deserted beach representing the word "WANDER", I've used a map print, arrows, wandering journaling, wave shapes and butterflies. Such a fun challenge, you really should give it a go if you haven't already.

My second share today is a sweet little card I made for A Piece Of Cake Designs featuring some of the gorgeous custom designed Cherry Flair buttons. I've used three buttons from the Blooming Lovely set to represent sweet little flowers blooming away in the garden, adding a few bits and pieces from the July Kit - leftover paper scraps and sequins. Oh how I've loved using these sequins!

Thank you for calling in again today. I know it's been a huge month this past August with no less than 20 posts on my blog - I am hoping for a quieter September - but we will see how that turns out. I already have lots to share over the next few days at least.

Curiosities Art Journal - Marion Smith Designs

Our first challenge as a team for Marion Smith Designs is to alter a book, a notebook or a composition book to celebrate the return to school in the United States. Cool right? Yes, what a great challenge, I agree. I have created a mini album style art journal - let's call it my Curiosities Journal. Even the pages inside were created from white cardstock and I am looking forward to filling them with whimsical art style journaling.

I created the textured cover from plain white cardstock which I dry embossed using a baroque style pattern and painted up with some aqua coloured acrylic paint. I then aged the whole thing, again with paint but this time in an antique brown colour to match my inside pages.

The real fun begins when you start adding all those beautiful elements, and for this I have used the top hat, chalkboard title, black clockface and tickets images from the brand new Nirvana collection as well as printables from Marion Smith Designs including Ephemera 2 and the insert from the February Printable Journal.

The rest of the team has also created some amazing samples which can be found on the Marion Smith Designs blog now. You will definitely want to drop in to take a look - so many beautiful creations to inspire.

Thanks for calling in, enjoy your day!

Sydney - Case File 86 - Guest Designer at CSI Challenge

Sometimes opportunities come along which are just a pleasure to receive, and this week I am happy to have had the chance to play along at the CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration challenge blog as part of my Design Team work for 2Crafty. As you can see I have incorporated a few of my favourite pieces into my layout, including 2Crafty Alpha Set 12Crafty Assorted Arrows and 2Crafty Borders Forever (heart embellishment).

This weeks palette is so soft and dreamy, such a gorgeously feminine colour scheme and I loved playing along. In this layout I have documented my love for Sydney. I love visiting this amazing city - I don't go very often - but when I do I really enjoy myself. There is something magical about the harbour, the city and the hustle and bustle. Sydney, I simply love you.

Here is the challenge prompt this week, hope you get to play along with us!

Sail Away - A Piece Of Cake Designs Guest Designer

For my fourth layout as Guest Designer for A Piece Of Cake Designs I have chosen to use the aqua shades from this months kit and created a nautical themed page. My background was created using gesso on chipboard and a large splash of October Afternoon Sprinklers to extend the photograph into the background and give that "surrounded by water" impression.

More details on this layout can be found on my post here

Thanks for dropping by again!

Enjoy your day.

The Chinese Gardens - An Oasis In The City

Today I want to share my third layout for The Scrapbook Store this month featuring Basic Grey Carte Postale collection. I took these gorgeous photographs earlier this year and they have been waiting patiently for me to find some lovely coordinating papers - which I have done with this collection.

Because my photographs are predominantly green I have chosen the green papers from the collection and layered them together along with a touch of red and orange for some contrast. The little wood veneer numbers add a bit of fun and gosh I just adore the flair buttons.

Treasure Forever - 2Crafty

It's my turn again today to share some inspiration using some of the brand new 2Crafty chipboard - I adore these gorgeous flourishes and have teamed them with some giant cogs, buttons and a chipboard title, painting them up with gesso for that timeless shabby look. I've also used lots of Green Tara flowers to complete the look.

No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problem - Sketch365

It's the middle of the month already, and with that is the new sketch reveal for Sketch365. I have to say I have really enjoyed creating with these sketches, I find they just flow and evolve easily.

I hadn't realised until I had finished this one that I had used only the tiniest strip of patterned paper - the long yellow anchors at the bottom of the design - everything else on this one is either a stamp or adhesive tapes. A real mixture actually, fabric tape, sticker tape and of course washi tape. I don't know how we all survived the papercrafting world without it! And don't you just love that little chalkboard style flair button! So on trend and, dare I say, cute as a button!

So there is a super cute kit up for grabs this month for our winner - you'd be mad to miss it. Here is the sketch below and all the details can be found on the Sketchbook365 blog here.

Broome, WA - Basic Grey Carte Postale Collection for The Scrapbook Store

Sometimes a collection comes along that just "speaks" to you and the new Carte Postale collection by Basic Grey does just that to me. I love everything - from the papers to the embellishments, its all good. Yes, I had to have it all and I will be creating with this one for some time to come.

My first project for The Scrapbook Store is a quick and easy layout that has a big WOW factor. The huge photograph used as a background really makes an impact and adding a few embellishments such as the title using the Alpha Stickers, that fabulous Garland banner and some of those gorgeous ticket stubs from the patterned papers over the photograph is a great way to fill some of that empty space.

Here is a complete linked list to the products I have used:

Basic Grey Carte Postale Patterned Paper Park Avenue

Message In A Bottle And A Shabby Chic Layout

Today I have some very shabby chic style shares featuring lots of Green Tara goodies. My first project was inspired by a recent art class I have been doing in the background with a whimsical ocean theme and so I have created my version of a "message in a bottle.

My second project is a very shabby chic style layout using an old family photograph. For further detail on how I created both of these projects, please visit my post on the Green Tara blog.

And its now the start of a new week. I've had a hugely creative month so far - dabbling in all kinds of fun stuff - and I'm finding all kinds of inspiration in all kinds of places. Here's hoping you're having a creative streak too.

Hiding In The Hydrangeas - Art Journal

My art journal has another new resident! A little someone peeking out from the garden. Perhaps she is the reason my flowers still bloom even though I neglect them terribly.

More Art Journal - Something Fun To Share

So..last night I found myself creating a fairy to grace the cover of my plain and ordinary looking colour swatch journal. I keep this journal and fill it with samples of all the mediums and various colours I have in my stash so I can see exactly what they look like on paper. It's a fantastic reference, but oh my, it really did need a little love and attention.

Hey - Remember That One Time..

Have I mentioned how much I am enjoying this fun kit from A Piece Of Cake Designs? I think I have but I had to mention it again. This is my latest creation using this kit and I've coordinated the colour of my background to enhance the beautiful colours in the kit. Again I have used a eclectic layered look to frame my photograph and topped the whole page off with the sweetest little telephone flair button from the kit.

Hope you like! You can find more detail on the products used here at A Piece Of Cake Designs blog.

A Few More Project Life Pages For My Travel Album

I thought I would share a couple more layouts from my Project Life travel album again today - this time I have been using some of the smaller pocket pages since I had only a few photographs but lots of journaling. Because we left Canberra in July (BRRRRR) we were pretty much in a hurry to head north to find some sunshine hence the lack of photos, but a few small adventures along the way meant I had some stories to tell. And when I got to this part of the journey I realised I hadn't taken any photos at all! Oh no, I guess I became a bit complacent since we lived in Coffs for 7 years - apparently I forgot to get my camera out! But never mind, I found a couple of stock photographs which fitted perfectly with the theme and so this page was complete.

I am totally loving using small strips of patterned paper scraps and tapes to fill in any gaps - fabbo!

Again I had some journaling I wanted to get down so for the reverse side of this pocket page I have shrunk my photographs down to a smaller size to fit everything in that I wanted to include on this page, including a location map. I have outlined the "Record Life" sentiment with a coloured pencil to help it stand out a little more and not get lost in my journaling.

And lastly for today these are two smaller sized pocket pages placed side by side. I had a few photographs but not much to write about - perfect way to include these images and the smaller pages look so great in your album. Instagram anyone?

Smile - The Scrapbook Store

A brand new month means a brand new sketch at The Scrapbook Store, and another chance to win a $40 voucher to the shop. We are also so very blessed to have Melinda Spinks join us as our sketch artist every month. You can find Melinda on her blog, The Scrap Farm.

So, here is the sketch for August! Cool, huh?

I've used papers and embellishments from the new Melissa Francis line, Classic Elegance and one of the girls -may- be working with this one throughout the coming month (wink, wink)

Looking forward to seeing your creations this month.

Something Old - 123 Challenge August

This months challenge at the 123 Challenge blog asks us to use the colour cream, the word old and the technique is vintage.

I had this idea to create a layout in the shape of a string and washer envelope and this challenge was the perfect opportunity to use this design. I've used lots of vintage style patterned papers, paper tapes, stamps and file tabs and an acetate overlay as well as a simple Green Tara vine. The vintage wedding photograph is perfect to incorporate the world "old" in my title and of course I have used lots of neutral colours to represent the colour cream.

I hope you find some inspiration from my layout and I look forward to seeing your entry this month at 123

Belle Of The Ball - A Piece Of Cake Designs

My second layout for A Piece Of Cake Designs features lots of feminine colours for a completely girlie look layout. I've used strips of vellum, patterned papers, star stickers, wooden embellishments which I have coloured with mist, sequins, ticket stub and tag, paper flower and alpha stickers. The finishing touch is one of the sweet flair buttons exclusive to this months kit - so sweet!

I have more designs using this kit to share soon, stay tuned!

Unforgettable - Once Upon A Sketch August Challenge

I always love the beginning of a new month - there are so many inspiring new projects and challenges appearing which seem to energise me for the next few weeks. The new challenge at Once Upon A Sketch asks us to use the journaling theme "I'll never forget" and these photographs I took of Simon recently fit perfectly. This beach we are walking along on just a few weeks ago is the same beach we visited many years ago which left an impression on us we never seemed to forget. The pristine aqua waters and fine white sands take your breath away - one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen.

As part of my layout I included a map with a marker pointing to the location for a fun idea. The papers and embellishments are from the new Basic Grey collection Carte Postale which I am totally in love with and I will be using it lots over the coming weeks. I've also used some Imaginarium Designs chipboard lettering for my title.

So here is a peek at the sketch, I've tilted the design on its side, and I hope to see you playing along with us again :)
