Something exciting is happening in the challenge blog world. 123 Challenge is getting a fresh new look along with a new Design Team to rock our creative worlds.

Throughout February Mel will be introducing the team so be sure to drop in throughout the coming month to find out who they are and get to know them a little better. It's a huge team and we are split into two reveal groups just to add to the excitement.

I am so happy to be part of this new venture and look forward to playing along every month.

Something Old, Something New And A Little Something Special - Green Tara

I created this layout of my father and I just on our way into the church on my wedding day using the gorgeously bright and colourful Green Tara chrysanthemums. They add such impact to a layout, and I wanted to keep the page simple to show off their beauty. I have also used a sweet little Imaginarium Designs Cross Hatch with Heart chipboard piece along with some ID chipboard alpha for my title.

For my second project I made this ever so sweet little shabby trinket box which would be perfect for a bracelet or a watch, something of that size. The Green Tara flowers and ribbons look perfect in a colour combination of rich purples, mint green, cream and white.

And for my third project for January I have revisited this layout I originally created for Kraft It Up! as it is one of my favourite layouts for 2012 and I have used lots and lots of Green Tara goodies on it.

For some close up photographs and a detailed list of materials used please call in to the Green Tara blog.

Thanks for dropping in

A Couple of Shares - Imaginarium Designs

Today I am wanting to share a couple of layouts featuring Imaginarium Designs Chipboard, who sponsor the super talented Design Team from Once Upon A Sketch, and I am super thrilled to have them featured on the Imaginarium Designs blog today.

This first layout was created using one of my favourite holiday photos taken at Lawn Hill NP, or Boodjamulla which is the traditional name, and showcases a photograph of my husband and our eldest daughter paddling in a canoe. I just adore the colours and the way the light has bounced off the water to create lens flare on the picture.

I have used turquoise and aqua coloured inks to recreate and extend the water into the layout, adding the Flowers And Birds On Board (IDS0026) chipboard to embellish the layout and Lower Case Letters (IDALC0001A) for my title, as well as some Green Tara flowers, leaves and paper string.

I have used similar techniques on this second layout, this time incorporating my title (IDALC0001A and IDA0006) into my background and adding a cute as ever lace butterfly (IDT0014), again from Imaginarium Designs. Orange and yellow seem to be colouring my world at the moment - I love this combination so much.

Thanks for calling in today, I hope you find some inspiration from these two layouts.

Remember This Day - The Studio

I chose a photo of my friends little girl for my last layout as a DT member at The Studio. I am really sad to be farewelling this fabulous team of talented ladies but I hope to revisit them often just to play along with their challenges. The last six months at The Studio have been just wonderful and I have enjoyed the journey immensely.

So, as tradition dictates, the mid month challenge is a sketch challenge. I had an idea while I was sitting here wondering what to make that I should try using some bubble wrap on the page and see how it goes. Don't think I've ever seen this done before, what a result! As long as you can stop yourself from popping all the bubbles it's all good ;)

I've used papers and embellishments from Echo Park's For The Record 2 Tailored, which can be found at the link.

Here is a look at the sketch - hope to see your entry :)

A Valentines Card Using Copic

It's been a while since I have sat and coloured an image using my Copics and I really enjoyed creating this card using La La Lands Cupid Marci. Isn't she adorable, and with Valentines just around the corner it's perfect timing.

I created my card base using My Minds Eye The Sweetest Thing Bluebell 6x6 paper pad, stamped the image onto XPress It Blending Card using Tsukineko Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black and then coloured my image using a range of Copic Markers. For anyone who uses Copics and likes more detail on the colours used please see the list below.

E000, E00, E02, E04

Y21, Y23, Y26, Y28, E47, E49

My Top 12 For 2012

Better late than never :) Here are my personal favourite dozen layouts for 2012 in no particular order.

So now that I look at my personal picks for the past year I have noticed that my favourite colours to scrap seem to be aqua and lemon with a splash of red or bold pink, white backgrounds, texture stamping, water colours, gesso, butterflies and tiny roses, ink spashes, layers, chipboard, banners and washi.

Thanks for dropping by :)

Grandmother Of Mine - The Scrapbook Store

I created this layout for The Scrapbook Store featuring my 7 Gypsies Trousseau collection kit for January. This collection is so gorgeously vintage and I have matched it with a photograph of my grandmother taken when she was 4 years old. I just adore this photo.

To create this layout I have used a crazy patchwork look reminiscent of past times and I really love how this multi layered page has turned out, even though it's not a style I would normally use.

I've used the Grace patterned paper as my layout base, adding various elements taken from Charming, Always, Lovely and Dearest patterned papers as well as a couple of Journal Pages and a gorgeous vintage style envelope from the Charming Tag Envelopes pack. I then added a few elements from the Collection Sticker Sheet and finished it off by adding some Postale TapeTrousseau Tape and a title with the matching Alpha Stickers.

I really enjoyed stepping away from my usual style with this layout and I am loving the resulting vintage page.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

New Beginnings - The Studio

Our first challenge at The Studio for 2013 asks us to create a layout about new beginnings. I loved the idea of using butterflies to represent rebirth - a symbol of my new beginnings for 2013 and because  I have lots of great things happening over the next few months this theme is particularly meaningful for me at this time.

I've used the butterfly stencil by Louise Nelson which can be found here and some of my favourite colours at the moment to further give the feeling of movement. I also chose not to add a photograph, but to just let the design speak for itself.

Hope you get some creative time over the next couple of weeks, I would love to see your version of new beginnings.

7 Gypsies Trousseau - Art Journal

Oh how much fun this was to create. My kit from The Scrapbook Store this month is the 7 Gypsies Trousseau collection - so vintage, so inspiring and so beautiful. It's been a while since I have had the chance to create something for my journal so this was a very welcome excuse. I've used lots of mixed media to create the textures on these pages including gesso, texture paste, paint, mists, inks and masking tape in addition to the Trousseau goodies.

The vintage photos are taken from Grace patterned paper and I have used both sides of True pp which has the loveliest pink tinted vintage text on the reverse side.

I've also used the stickers collection, and an image from the Journal Pages, a ready made tag envelope and paper tape here and here. I really do love this tape, it's a little different to your normal washi in that it has a peel off backing and it looks and feels like masking tape - which is awesome!

Hope you have a creative day today too.

A New Year, A New Beginning

When I look back at the past year and then look forward to the year to come I realise how blessed I am. I have had many many opportunities to learn and grow in the industry I love and to take my creativity much further than I had ever hoped for. For this I really must be thankful, and I truly am.

These past couple of weeks have been a journey of soul searching for me and I have come to know that every so often I need to take a big step back to evaluate where I am and what I am doing - not only in my design commitments but in my private life as well. I put so much of myself into my creations that at times I am completely and utterly drained and cannot bare the thought of another layout. But at this point I soldier on and have been able to push through it. Herein lies the compromise. Quantity versus quality.

In 2013 I am going to choose quality. So my theme for the next twelve months will be to aim for quality and realise I cannot continue to create 20 - 30 projects a month as I have been and expect to be happy with them.

I am in such a great place right now and I cannot wait to dive right in to get started again.

What are YOUR plans for 2013?

Carnival Rides - Kraft It Up!

This month's challenge at Kraft It Up! is a palette of scorching hot colour perfect for those summer photos. Bright pink, orange and turquoise teamed with white just scream FUN to me so I chose a picture taken at Luna Park a couple of months ago - a perfect match.

Time to get your happy on!
